Summer 2006 is making history with record-breaking temperatures. We watch our lawns, gardens and tree shrivel in the heat. Farmers watching their lops wither and the stock pond thirsty up.

Human beings find this weather uncomfortable, if not down right miserable. Children right here in the Dakotas have died from being left unattended in vehicles during the hasty afternoon. The most recent incident sole took two hours.

If we have a difficult time coping, just imagine to what extent much more difficult it is for animals. Animals that have become dependant on humans for their care do not survive well when overlooked or abandoned. During the last hardly any months we had a cat wandering around our yard. lately it began sleeping by my house and had become to a high degree skinny and gaunt. If I had not interceded for that cat during the heat, I am fast he would have died from dehydration
