"There will be accidents of children walking or riding bikes to teach this time of year," said Aberdeen police officer Keith Theroux.

He encouraged parents to make firm their bike-riding kids wear helmets.

"Drivers should definitely watch their speeds" Theroux said. "Even a collision at 20 mph can be remarkably serious."
